Soon to be Tobacco Free

The University of Illinois has issued a statement letting the public know that their campus will be tobacco-free in August of 2019. This is an ongoing set of rules and restrictions to combat the tobacco use on campus. This rule will extend forward from the no-smoking policy to include items such as dip, chew, and dissolvable that many tobacco-using students have turned to as smoking has already been banned.

"A lot of people think that it's just smoking tobacco that is problematic in terms of health. In reality, all tobacco use is the leading preventable cause of death in the United States," via cancer, lung disease, stroke and heart disease, stated Michele Guerra, director of the UI's Wellbeing Services Center.

As of today, over 2,000 college campuses are smoke-free, with many of them tobacco-free as well. This growing trend is in hopes to help fight the battle against tobacco use in America.
